#49 Enhance SFIA to address Digital Accessibility Issues
SFIA needs to address the skills needed to develop assessable systems.
This change has been raised by the BCS Digital Assessibility Specialist Group.
One of the objectives of teh DASG is to make the IT profession aware of the need to ensure that IT systems are accessible to the 20% of the UK population who suffer from some form of disability. Under the Equality Act it is the responsibility of all organisations to take reasonable steps to ensure that the needs of individuals with disabilities are addressed.
In today’s increasingly digital world IT systems play a major role in either facilitating the engagement of disabled individuals or, by omission, actively discriminating against them. In the experience of the members of DASG there is a major lack of awareness within the IT profession of the need to develop suitably accessible systems.
